Villefort and Hermine Danglars have an affair. When Hermine gives birth, Villefort takes the baby and buries it alive in the garden of the house at Auteuil. He is interrupted by Bertuccio, who stabs him.
The Rescue
Bertuccio, thinking he has killed Villefort, discovers the baby is still alive. He rescues the child and raises him as his nephew. This child is Benedetto.
